"Quante volte al giorno pensiamo che la nostra società stia prendendo una deriva troppo stressante, consumistica e compromettente?
Quanto del nostro atteggiamento altera l’equilibrio naturale del mondo che ci circonda?
E cosa rimane dentro di noi del mondo naturale a cui apparteniamo?
Spesso pensiamo di mollare le nostre vite stressanti e di andare a vivere in mezzo alla giungla, così da dimenticarci di orari, meeting, bollette, traffico, multe, affitto, connessione internet, e di tutte quelle tecnologie che invece di semplificarci la vita effettivamente ce la complicano.
Marcantonio ha immaginato un enorme rinoceronte bianco passare a tutta velocità all’interno di un ufficio, scaraventando scrivanie e computer all’aria: un atto di ribellione da parte della natura, una natura dormiente che risvegliata diventa una forza incontrastabile, che reagisce al nostro stile di vita sempre più folle e stressante.
E’ una scena drammatica ed al contempo ironica, un’immagine tragicomica che ci invita a riflettere sul nostro stile di vita.
Cosa faranno gli impiegati di quell’ufficio, rimetteranno tutto a posto facendo degli straordinari o ne approfitteranno per cambiare vita?
Vedrebbero il rinoceronte bianco come un segno premonitore, come una opportunità da cogliere, o come l’ennesima avversità che si interpone tra loro e la carriera professionale e la tanto anelata felicità? Se capitasse a noi cosa faremmo?
Il rinoceronte bianco si ribella alle nostre abitudini, è l’atto disperato, l’ultimo grido, di un animale in via di estinzione.
Va considerato che se questa visione ci incuriosisce o ci fa sorridere è perché forse dentro ognuno di noi c’è un piccolo rinoceronte che a volte vorrebbe ribaltare il tavolo e cambiare vita."

"How many times every day do we think that our society is taking a direction that is too stressful, consumerist and compromising?

How much of our attitude alters the natural balance of the world around us?

And what remains within us of the natural world to which we belong?

We often think of giving up our stressful lives and going to live in the middle of the forest or on a desert island, so as to forget about timetables, meetings, bills, traffic, fines, rent, internet connection and all those technologies that instead of simplifying our lives actually complicates it.

I imagined an enormous white rhinoceros passing at full speed through an office, throwing desks and computers into the air, an act of rebellion on the part of nature which, once awakened, becomes an unstoppable force that reacts to our lifestyle, which is increasingly crazy and stressful.

It is a dramatic and at the same time ironic scene, a tragicomic image that invites us to reflect on our way of life.

What will the employees of that office do, will they put everything back in order by working overtime or will they take advantage of it to change their lives?

Would they see the white rhino as a warning sign, as an opportunity to be seized or as yet another adversity that stands between them and their professional career, the much-needed happiness?

If it happened to us what would we do?

The white rhino rebels against our habits, it is the desperate act, the last cry, of an animal in danger of extinction.

It should be considered that if this vision intrigues us or makes us smile it is because perhaps inside each of us there is a small white rhinoceros that sometimes would like to overturn the table and change our lives"
